Iowa Angus Bull Test & Sale Entry Information. No other notification will be sent.

The Iowa Angus Association board of directors has voted to again sponsor the Angus Bull Test and Sale. The test will be managed by the Iowa Angus Association, specifically Tricia Holmes, overseeing both the gain test and the sale. This test will begin with delivery of the bulls on October 3, 2011 to begin a 21 day warm-up period before they start the test on October 24, 2011. The bulls will be tested at Brad & Bill Schermer’s at Latimer, Iowa, with the sale being held on March 21, 2012 at the Lamoni Livestock Auction, Lamoni, Iowa.

Consignor Requirements:
1. Consignors must be members of the Iowa Angus Association.
2. Consignors must provide complete pedigree information at time of delivery.
3. Consignors must have herd performance records processed through the American Angus Association’s Angus Herd Improvement Record program.
4. Complete health information on forms supplied by the IAA and have available at time of delivery.
5. Provide assistance in marketing bull by submitting all information pertinent to the sale of the bull.
6. Deliver bulls between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on the designated date of delivery to test site.

Entry Requirements for Bulls:
1. Bulls must be born January 1, 2011 through March 31, 2011.
2. Bulls must have a minimum weight per day of age of 2.75 pounds on arrival at the test. No shrink allowances or exceptions will be made.
3. All bulls must be given the mandatory vaccinations prior to or during the suggested vaccination dates.
4. All bulls must be weaned and bunk broke at delivery time.
5. IAA recommends that your test station bull consignments have breed average performance EPD’s.
6. All bulls entered in this test must be sold if they meet test requirements.
7. Sale manager reserves the right to take out any bull deemed unfit for the sale based on substandard performance, disposition, structural soundness, or fertility.

Health and Vaccination Requirements:
1. It is recommended that bulls be weaned at least 21 days before delivery to test location.
2. All out-of-state bulls must be tested and found free of brucellosis no more than 30 days prior to delivery. In-state bulls are not required to be Bangs tested.
3. Vaccinated for the following at least 21 days before delivery (preferably a month before delivery) for:

  • BVD (Bovine Virus Diarrhea)
  • IBR (Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis)
  • PI3 (Para-Influenza 3)
  • Pasteurella - New Generation Vaccine
  • Clostridium Chauvoeri, Septicum (Blackleg & Malignant Edema)
  • Clostridium Perfringes (Type C & D) Enterotoxemia
  • Haemophilus Somnus (Shipping Fever) - Somnugen
  • BRSV (Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus)

4. Have veterinarian check calf’s scrotum at time of vaccination for any abnormalities.
5. Treat bulls for worms and grubs prior to delivery.
6. Bulls must be free from evidence of warts, ringworm or mange.
7. Bulls will receive the following booster shots at delivery to the test station, at the consignors expense.

  • Killed BVD
  • Nasal, IBR
  • Haemophilus Somnus
  • BRSV
  • Ivomec

There will be a $500 pre-sale expense fee to accompany each bull on delivery day. Non test bulls will have a $525 fee. All other sales expenses and additional feed costs will be deducted from the sale total at time of settlement. There will be no limit for bulls entered per consignor. There will be however, only 100 bulls accepted in the test and you may be asked to reduce your entries.
